Sharyland North Junior High School Health Program
SNJHS Health Program is designed to present a comprehensive view of health as it relates to your physical, mental, emotional, and social well being. This program’s goal is to teach students the necessary knowledge to make healthy lifestyle decisions.
The course material will be taught to each student for eighteen consecutive weeks. Each class period will be 50 minutes. Grades will be given at the end of the six-week period and will appear on the student’s report card. At the end of the course, students will take a comprehensive test. If student passes with a 70% or better, student will receive high school credit.
Materials:
Students will need to bring the following to class each day:
- Pen or Pencil
- Writing Notebook
- Assignment Folder
Grading Policy:
Students’ grade will be determined by the following criteria:
Test and MajorProjects 60%
MinorAssignments 40%
Classroom Rules and Procedures
Rules
1. Be Prepared.
Students are expected to have the appropriate classroom materials in order to enhance their learning.
- Pen or pencil
- Notebook
- Writing materials
- Assigned class work or homework
2. Be on Time.
Students must be in the classroom when the tardy bell rings.
3. Be Respectful.
In order to create a safe learning environment, students must respect the teacher and each other.
- No name calling
- No inappropriate language or gestures.
- No disruptive behavior
4. Follow Directions.
In order to maintain order and discipline students are expected to follow classroom procedures.
- Student must remain in seat, unless given permission otherwise.
- No talking allowed, unless it pertains to daily discussion.
- Absolutely no cell phones or any other electronic devices and or cosmetic products are allowed.
- No food permitted in classroom.
- Students must follow the school dress code.
Procedures
If student breaks classroom rules 1, 3, or 4 consequences will be as follows:
1st Infraction – Verbal Warning
2nd Infraction – Detention/ Parent notification
3rd Infraction- Teacher/ Student/ Parent Conference
4th Infraction- Principal Referral
If student breaks classroom rule 2, consequences will be as follows:
1st tardy – Verbal Warning
2nd tardy – Verbal Warning
3rd tardy – Home contact by Teacher/ Detention 1 Day
4th tardy – Team/Student/Parent Conference/ Detention 2 Days- Unexcused absence will be issued.
5th tardy –Referral
Absences
If the student is absent and it is excused, it is the student’s responsibility to pick up and make up any missed assignments as soon as the student returns back to school. If the absence is unexcused the student will receive a zero for the days missed. (Information can also be located in Student/ Parent Handbook)
